PRESS: Govt roadmap to include cryptocurrency mining regulation
MOSCOW, Feb 1 (PRIME) -- The Russian government’s roadmap will include regulation of cryptocurrency mining, daily Izvestiya reported on Tuesday citing government sources.
“The measures to regulate cryptocurrency mining will be included in the government’s road map. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko gave such an order,” the daily reported quoting one of the sources.
Chernyshenko ordered a working group to be organized with representatives of the crypto industry at the government’s coordination center to receive feedback from experts and deliberate on regulation matters.
Sources at the Economic Development Ministry told the daily that criminal responsibility for illegal turnover of cryptocurrencies may be introduced. The legal and regulatory framework to control issuance of virtual assets is already being developed.
The central bank earlier suggested banning cryptocurrency mining in the country and using infrastructure of its financial market for any transactions with such currencies. But the government spoke in favor of regulation. President Vladimir Putin asked the regulator and the government to reach a common view.
